SGS Summarizes Stuffed Toy Manufacturing Act Update in Pennsylvania

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / July 19, 2024 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS detailing the US state of Pennsylvania’s update to its ‘Stuffed Toy Manufacturing Act’, which now permits the use of recycled materials in stuffed toys manufactured and sold within the state.

HB 1333 was signed into law on June 28, 2024, by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. It amends the ‘Stuffed Toy Manufacturing Act’ of 1961 and brings the state into line with global requirements for stuffed toys.

Under the terms of the new law, manufacturers can manufacture and sell stuffed toys with recycled materials. They must also bear the following information:

  • Statement indicating whether the material used in the manufacture of the stuffed toy is new, recycled, or a combination of both
  • Registration number of the manufacturer or importer, assigned by the Commonwealth, preceded by the abbreviations "REG. NO. PA."

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed of regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 112.24 gives further details of the new act and key information on labeling and manufacturer/importer registration numbers. It also includes details of SGS Green Certification Services to assist businesses in calculating and verifying recycled content in their products.
