SGS on the EU Bisphenols Ban and Its Industry Impact

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 16, 2025 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a Consumer Compact article examining the impact of the EU ban on bisphenols in food contact materials (FCM).

From can coatings to chocolate molds, bisphenols are used in a wide variety of food contact materials. On January 20, 2025, the European Commission banned bisphenol A (BPA), its salts and related hazardous bisphenols in FCM across the European Union. However, the versatility of BPA and other bisphenols means their use is not restricted to FCM, and businesses in other industries, including textiles and electronics, should prepare for future restrictions as scientific evidence continues to develop.

SGS’s Consumer Compact article considers the risks associated with bisphenols, the latest regulatory developments, the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/3190, transition periods, and the solutions offered by SGS to support businesses with their regulatory compliance.
