SGS reports on Serbia’s updated chemical restrictions and POP requirements
BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / September 23, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 125.26, focusing on Serbia’s updated chemical restrictions, which further align the country’s legislation with EU requirements.
The ‘Regulation on Restrictions and Prohibitions on the Production, Placing on the Market and Use of Chemicals’ establishes restrictions and prohibitions on hazardous chemicals and products that pose an unacceptable risk to human health and the environment, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs). It was published in the Official Gazette of Serbia (OGS) No 90/2013-83 and has been consolidated through OGS No 82/2026-28.
OGS No 82/2026-28 was issued on September 4, 2026. It amends two lists of hazardous chemicals in the Regulation. The Regulation is broadly aligned with provisions from three pieces of EU legislation, including REACH, the POP Recast Regulation and Directive 2004/42/EC.
Restrictions have been introduced for diisocyanates. Three chemicals, methoxychlor, UV-328 and dechlorane plus (DP), have also been added to the list of prohibited POP substances, with revisions to requirements for several polybrominated flame retardants.
Manufacturers, importers, retailers and other intermediaries operating in Serbia are among the stakeholders affected by OGS No 82/2026-28, which entered into force on September 12, 2026, eight days after publication in the Official Gazette of Serbia.
