GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / September 12, 2025 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an article focusing on a new online portal from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), introducing a web-based system for the inspection and clearance of imported goods.
Integrated with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) system and operating on predefined harmonized system (HS) codes, a major benefit of the new UNBS platform is the reduced turnaround time for import clearance. Unlike the previous manual process, the new system automatically issues the Import Clearance Certificate (ICC) once the UNBS has completed the regulatory process.
All products imported into Uganda that are covered by compulsory Ugandan standards must be cleared by UNBS and obtain an ICC to enter the country. A certificate of conformity (CoC), issued under the pre-export verification of conformity (PVoC) program, is also essential to comply with mandatory Ugandan standards and applicable technical regulations prior to shipment.
As a trusted UNBS-accredited body under Uganda’s PVoC program for over 15 years, SGS provides CoCs for a comprehensive range of products, and its longstanding collaboration with UNBS offers trusted support for consumers and the environment. The article offers further details of SGS’s PVoC services, including the SGS Exporter Portal, which allows importers to access streamlined customs clearance and avoid delays or penalties resulting from non-compliant products.
