UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / January 22, 2026 / A Swansea-based chartered engineer has launched a new renewable energy business to address a growing gap in the local solar market. Ulex Energy, founded by Ian Mach, brings together engineering expertise, bespoke system design and hands-on installation to help homeowners and businesses across South Wales make informed decisions about solar and battery storage.
Mach is already well known as the founder of Charge Gully, an innovative product which provides home electric vehicle charging for houses without a driveway, which was acquired by a company backed by Deborah Meaden. With Ulex Energy, he is now turning his focus to solar solutions, drawing on more than a decade of engineering experience and first-hand insight into the challenges facing homes and businesses investing in renewable technologies.
Ulex Energy has been created in response to what Mach describes as an over-reliance on packaged, one-size-fits-all solar solutions. While these systems may suit some properties, many properties fail to achieve their full generation potential without careful design and technical consideration.
“Solar is a significant investment, and it deserves more than a standard approach,” said Ian Mach, Founder of Ulex Energy. “Every roof, property and usage pattern is different. By taking the time to understand each property, we can design systems that make better use of available space, improve performance and shorten the payback period. It often surprises people how much difference fitting just a couple of additional panels can make.”
Ulex Energy carries out all installations using its own team, ensuring systems are properly integrated with existing electrics and built to a high engineering standard. All work is backed by a comprehensive 10-year insurance-backed workmanship guarantee.
Ulex Energy is also fully independent, allowing it to select equipment based on performance and suitability rather than manufacturer ties - including the latest technologies such as high-wattage panels and advanced battery storage. Beyond installation, the company aims to provide ongoing support, helping customers adapt as energy prices and technologies evolve. This includes long-term aftercare and regular advice on energy tariffs to ensure systems continue to deliver value.
Mach’s background includes work with a major engineering consultancy and a large solar installation company, where he gained exposure to a wide range of renewable systems and emerging technologies. He is also regularly invited to share technical expertise at industry events.
“With Ulex Energy, we want to be a trusted local partner,” Mach added. “From the first conversation through installation and years of aftercare, our goal is to ensure that each system of our customers has been designed properly, installed correctly and will perform as expected.”
