On June 2, 2025, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) issued RO 2025 395, revising Ordinance RS/SR 817.023.21. The updated ordinance introduces transitional provisions for the continued use and placement on the market of BPA-containing FCMs manufactured before July 1, 2025. It also updates authorized substance lists, revises migration limits and specifications and introduces new rules for varnishes, coatings and declaration of conformity (DoC) documentation.

The regulation also sets deadlines for phasing out certain products and materials, with specific dates extending through 2029 for some professional-use equipment.
SGS publishes SafeGuardS to help stakeholders stay informed of important regulatory developments. SafeGuardS 094.25 provides a comprehensive summary of Switzerland’s updated food contact materials ordinance and its alignment with EU standards.
