A Louisville favorite for its intriguing array of domestic and international wines, spirits, beers and more, The Wine Rack has debuted a new monthly online video cocktail tutorial series titled ‘Cocktails With Cookie’. Featured on YouTube and its social media channels, Facebook and Instagram, the videos are shot on location at Owner/Sommelier John Johnson’s Crescent Hill shop. These entertaining and informative craft cocktail tutorials provide, or enhance, the skills necessary for aspiring at-home bartenders.

“Over the past 11 months my team and I have brainstormed on various ways to keep our loyal clientele – and new customers as well – engaged with our offerings and events during the COVID pandemic and the restrictions in place,” says Johnson. “From Zoom live wine tastings originating in locations as diverse as France’s Bordeaux region and Oregon’s Willamette Valley, to Instagram Live ‘Wine Rack on Location’ outings at regional distilleries and breweries, we’re bringing special events into homes virtually, whereas prior we focused primarily on in-store events. During these shifting times it’s most certainly not business as usual and we are so grateful for our customers and community. By Spring 2020, we were inspired to innovate and reach out via technology, hopefully providing a sense of comfort and normalcy while of course, enjoying a delicious beverage.”

About the name of the new series and the bartender/host? Chris Cooke, aka Cookie, is a fixture on the Louisville fine dining scene as a server, bartender and bar manager, as she has been her entire career and which she absolutely loves. This quintessential people person states, “It brings me a lot of joy to create a dining or cocktail experience that’s really something special for others, whether that experience is Boeuf Bourguignon and the finest Burgundy, or pizza and beer. It’s what makes me truly happy and I can’t imagine doing anything else.” She, John and his wife Kate became close when Cookie was the bar manager at Porcini, just down the street from The Wine Rack, and now Cookie is the bar manager at Germantown’s Italian standout Sarino.

All cocktails and ingredients featured on ‘Cocktails With Cookie’ can be found at The Wine Rack at 2632 Frankfort Avenue between Franck and Hite Avenues, open 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with social distancing and masking in place.
