Tannery Knobs Officially Opens in Johnson City, TN

(Johnson City, Tenn.) – City of Johnson City officials and other dignitaries held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Tannery Knobs mountain bike complex. The park offers a one-of-a-kind destination for outdoor adventure enthusiasts across the region – and nationwide.

Riders can expect to enjoy the thrills of varying terrain set in a picturesque park with beautiful mountaintop views. Tannery Knobs offers 40 acres of trails that include high-complexity rocky sections and smooth well-designed speed sections.

The new park was designed and crafted by an expert crew of mountain bike professionals from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) to provide fun and challenging skills obstacles for bike riders of all ages and ability. Trail Solutions, the international leader in singletrack trail development, designed Tannery Knob’s landscape.

The Tannery Knobs experience is just one more jewel in Johnson City’s crown as an outdoor adventure destination. The city has continued to invest in attracting outdoor enthusiasts to all the nearby natural resources available, from the legendary Appalachian Trail and Nolichucky River to some of the best fly fishing and mountain lake experiences available on the East Coast. The beauty of the new Tannery Knobs park is its proximity to the downtown area and its extraordinary mountain vista views. The park is just a few minutes’ bike ride from downtown Johnson City, and the many craft breweries, independent restaurants, and energetic nightlife the city offers.

Brenda Whitson, Executive Director of the JCCVB, said, “This is a significant milestone for tourism in our region. This project has been a passion project for so many of our local community members, as well as the dedicated teams from around the world that came here to bring our vision to life. Tannery Knobs will play a major role in the continued growth of our city as an outdoor destination for visitors of all interests. Within our city and county Tannery Knobs enhances the quality of life for our large and engaged community of mountain biking enthusiasts. For visitors, it offers a world-class facility that connects them with Johnson City’s other amazing experiences downtown.”
