The largest professional body for procurement and supply management in the world, The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) is now a registered awarding body for training and qualifications in Botswana The Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) made the award in recognition of the high-quality global qualifications CIPS offers in the field of Business, Commerce and Management at equivalent NCQF (National Credit and Qualifications Framework) levels 3-8 inclusive. The BQA provides for and maintains the framework and co-ordinates the training and skills development of the nation in Botswana from early childhood to tertiary level and lifelong learning. The body registers and validates qualifications and training as relevant in addressing national skill shortages and ultimately meeting the economic needs of the country. CIPS is a not-for-profit and a worldwide centre of excellence in procurement and supply management with students and professionals studying qualifications that build a competitive edge for their businesses but also developing highly-regarded careers for individuals. According to the CIPS/Hays Procurement Salary Guide and Insights Report in 2020 [link] 82% of employers in Sub-Saharan Africa requested candidates with MCIPS (full membership of CIPS) or studying CIPS qualifications, and MCIPS professionals earned 5% more than their non-MCIPS counterparts. CIPS offers the Global Standard in Procurement & Supply, free to employers, businesses and individuals to benchmark their procurement professionals against this global competency framework and identify any skills and capability gaps. For students of CIPS qualifications in Botswana, this means that their achievements will be further elevated, not only recognised globally, but in their own country as highly-skilled professionals in their field making them more sought after whilst enjoying higher pay and benefits. Hemant Hariell, General Manager, CIPS South Africa said, ”This is a great achievement by CIPS to be recognized to professional standards by BQA and means our current students get more recognition and value for their hard work. Through this recognition, the BQA validates CIPS as a strategic partner for the provision of accredited training and skills development. “The BQA is a respected body, so I hope that more citizens decide to study with us at all levels for highly-regarded insight and qualifications in procurement and supply management.” The number of procurement and supply chain professionals in the South Africa region is expanding.
