LOUISVILLE, KY / AGILITYPR.NEWS / August 16, 2022 / American Printing House for the Blind’s (APH) ConnectCenter is a major resource for parents and plays an important role in preparing children who are blind or have low vision for the upcoming school year. The ConnectCenter provides information for parents of children ages 0-18. Users can browse for information for babies and toddlers; preschoolers; grade-schoolers; and teenagers.


The ConnectCenter says you can prepare children for the upcoming school year by:


  1. Visiting the school in advance: Make sure your child gets to visit and tour their new school before the other kids.
  2. Reviewing the class schedule and meeting the teachers: Then, drop by the school at the open house or simply before school starts so that your child can put an identity to their teacher’s names.
  3. Encouraging your child assist with school shopping: Encourage your child to choose their school items so that they can develop their own identity.
  4. Finding out what extra-curricular activities are available: Kids who are blind or have low vision may not see the posters and sign-up sheets on the walls, so help them find something new they’d like to try.
  5. Providing information to school staff: Get in touch with your child’s teachers and explain their eye condition and unique needs.
