UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 14, 2021 / The long shadows cast by a misogynistic office culture that caused the death of a female employee at ActivisionBlizzard have highlighted just how damaging - and dangerous - toxic work environments can be. This applies particularly acutely in the video games sector where intense stress caused by crunch and mass layoffs is commonplace. In response, representatives of the Association of Game Manufacturers (IGI), the Icelandic Electronic Sports Association (RISÍ) and Game Makers Canada (GMI) signed a treaty on September 16th pledging to create and maintain a safe working environment for their employees.

What was agreed?
The charter sets out a clear message establishing a zero tolerance policy relating to bullying, sexual or gender-based harassment, or violence of any kind and implements targeted efforts to prevent such unwanted behaviour. Furthermore it identifies managers and leaders as being in key positions to shape a constructive and supportive working culture in the Icelandic video game industry.
