The Unnamed Artist John Cleese Brooklyn Bridge (NFT) Auction Closes April 1st (April Fools’ Day) at 8 PM ET

USA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / March 31, 2021 / Buy now for only $69,346,250.50 (or best offer)

Earth-March 31...The Unnamed Artist John Cleese’s auction of his Brooklyn Bridge (NFT) drawing closes tomorrow, April Fools’ Day, at 8PM ET. NFT investors are encouraged to get their bids in now for what has been heralded as a “cultural moment” in the art and NFT world by the artist himself. The work by one of the world’s most well-known social satirists of all time hopes to exceed the sale price of the NFT art sold by the artist Beeple at Christie’s earlier this month by $.50 or $69,346,250.50.

John Cleese, 81, has provided keen — often cutting — social commentary for decades, and The Brooklyn Bridge NFT may be his ultimate 21st Century societal satire. (For 20th Century satire see Marcel Duchamp's Fountain, 1917.) His decision to draw the Brooklyn Bridge for his satire was easy: after all, selling the Brooklyn Bridge is a famous con. It represents selling an item without giving away the item or, in the case of the Brooklyn Bridge, owning the item.

“This is a cultural moment: A bridge from the past to the future,” The Unnamed Artist John Cleese said in a live announcement of the auction via Twitter. “And a bridge is about trust…as in the saying that if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you. When you believe someone, you see, you trust them and then you buy a bridge from them. It's that simple. So, today, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. The Brooklyn Bridge NFT.”

A Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is, as Wikipedia describes, a unit of data on a digital ledger called a blockchain, where each NFT can represent a unique digital item, and thus they are not interchangeable. NFTs can represent digital files such as art, audio, videos, items in video games and other forms of creative work.

NFTs have become commoditized virtual collectibles, selling at red-hot prices. In February, the Nyan Cat meme sold for $590,000. That same month CryptoPunk #6965 sold for $1.54 million. The artist Grimes sold more than $5 million (US) of art-based NFTs in March, and Beeple sold a piece for $69,346,250.00 at Christie’s on March 11.

The Unnamed Artist John Cleese could eclipse that record price with the sale of The Brooklyn Bridge NFT...by $.50. A percentage of proceeds from the sale will be donated to combating climate change.
