The Victoria Teresa Arias Memorial Foundation proudly presents its 7th Annual “A Weekend to Remember,” featuring a Scholarship Gala and a Benefit Concert at Casino Del Sol. These heartfelt events celebrate the enduring legacy of Victoria Teresa Arias, a talented young musician and beloved San Miguel High School graduate who passed away in 2017.
Since 2018, the Foundation has awarded $388,000 in scholarships to 28 promising students. This year marks the Foundation’s first expansion to include high schools across the entire Southern Arizona region.
Each of the 2025 scholarship recipients will receive $40,000 toward their educational goals:
Thanks to the continued support of Casino Del Sol, which has hosted the event since its inception, the Foundation’s mission of empowering young scholars continues to grow and inspire.
Spotlight on Mariachi Cobre – Arts & Culture Writers Take Note:
The Benefit Concert will feature a special performance by Mariachi Cobre, one of the world’s most renowned mariachi ensembles, celebrating 51 years of excellence in traditional Mexican music.
Media are invited to meet and photograph the group in an exclusive opportunity to capture the legacy and influence of this iconic Tucson-born ensemble, which has performed at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Center since 1982.
Several members of Mariachi Cobre were mentors to Victoria during her formative years with Los Changuitos Feos and at the Tucson International Mariachi Conference. Their appearance is more than a performance—it’s a tribute by her musical family and a poignant reminder of her passion for mariachi and community.
Local arts writers, culture reporters, and photographers are especially encouraged to attend the concert and arrange interviews or behind-the-scenes access with the ensemble in advance.
WHY:
The Victoria Teresa Arias Memorial Foundation was created by her family to honor her joyful spirit and unwavering dedication to education and music. Embodying the #ChooseHappy mantra, the Foundation continues to uplift students who demonstrate academic dedication, resilience, and a commitment to making a difference.
