BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / January 22, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 005.26, which focuses on the Southern Common Market’s (Mercado Común del Sur, Mercosur) December 2025 announcement of the Mercosur Technical Regulation on Silicones for the Manufacture of Materials, Packaging, Coating and Equipment Intended to Come into Contact with Food.
Issued as Mercosur/GMC/Res. No 34/2025, the resolution amends previous GMC Resolution Nos 27/99 (adhesives), 28/99 (positive list for elastomers) and 02/12 (positive list for plastics).
Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, as member states of Mercosur, must transpose this resolution into their national legislation before June 16, 2026. As a newer member, Bolivia has a four-year transition period to comply with Mercosur guidelines.
