Two Ohio AAA Clubs Merge to Better Serve Ohio

COLUMBUS, OHIO / AGILITYPR.NEWS / January 06, 2021 / On January 1, 2021 the Akron Automobile Club’s employees and 94,000 members officially merged with AAA Ohio Auto Club. By uniting these two clubs, AAA Ohio Auto Club is now the eighth largest AAA club in North America and the largest club in Ohio, representing more than 865,000 members throughout a 38-county footprint.

This merger represents the union of two clubs closely matched in corporate philosophy, sharing the same passion and core values centered on the safety, security and peace-of-mind of its members, trusted employees and local communities.

“Together, we will enrich our brand by providing stronger product offerings and services to members and offer additional career opportunities to our employees – all while serving a larger footprint in Ohio,” said David McMullen, president and CEO of AAA Ohio Auto Club.

AAA is a federation of motor clubs, which started in 1902 as hundreds of smaller county-based clubs, like Akron (serving Summit County). Over the many decades, and in keeping with the changing landscape of travel, insurance and automotive technology development, the federation has undergone many changes in order to protect the resources of the membership and enhance member benefits.

“The decision of club management and our governing board to merge centered around three priorities: preserving the benefits of our local members; preserving our local staff and service offices; and preserving our ability to continue to serve the Akron/Summit community as we have traditionally,” said Kevin Thomas, president and CEO of the Akron Automobile Club.

Local AAA members can continue to rely on the unparalleled emergency road service and exceptional member experiences that they have come to know from AAA. Combining the expertise of both clubs will only strengthen these services.

AAA provides more than 61 million members with automotive, travel, insurance and financial services through its federation of motor clubs and branch offices across North America. Since 1902, the not-for-profit, fully tax-paying AAA has been a leader and advocate for safe mobility. Drivers can request roadside assistance, identify nearby gas prices, locate discounts, book a hotel or map a route via the AAA Mobile app.
