ORANGE AND EAST HARTFORD, CT / AGILITYPR.NEWS / April 23, 2021 / Programs featured in parent company AVANGRID’s new Sustainability Report, out this week in celebration of Earth Day
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy have once again recognized United Illuminating (UI), Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) for their ongoing work to help customers reduce energy bills and fight climate change through the ENERGY STAR program.
The three Connecticut subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR), received the program’s highest honor for 2021, “Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence,” recognizing an ongoing year-over-year commitment to energy efficiency.
The companies’ efficiency programs are featured in AVANGRID’s 2020 Sustainability Report, released this week in celebration of Earth Day. Based in Orange, Connecticut, AVANGRID aspires to be the leading sustainable energy company in the United States.
This marks the fourth consecutive year UI, SCG and CNG received the Sustained Excellence designation, which was conferred on only 14 New England companies, including Eversource, which jointly administers efficiency programs with UI, SCG and CNG as part of the Energize Connecticut initiative. In 2020, the statewide initiative generated approximately $59.3 million in cost savings and avoided approximately 186,081 tons of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. That’s equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 22,408 typical homes’ annual energy use.
Through Energize Connecticut, UI, SCG and CNG offer a wide variety of energy efficiency programs, including the Home Energy Solutions residential energy audit program, business efficiency solutions, and rebates and discounts for ENERGY STAR-rated products. More information about the programs can be found on the “Smart Energy” section of the companies’ websites, uinet.com, soconngas.com and cngcorp.com.
ENERGY STAR is the government-backed energy-efficiency initiative that provides resources and information that can help consumers and businesses reduce their energy usage and make well-informed decisions. Since 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped American families and businesses save 5 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity, avoid more than $450 billion in energy costs, and achieve 4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions.
“ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are showing the world that delivering real climate solutions makes good business sense and promote job growth,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan.
