UNIQUE EXAMPLE OF MODEL ENZO FERRARI NAMED AFTER HIS BELOVED SON SOLD FOR £310,500 BY H&H CLASSICS - SALE TOTAL OVER £2.3 MILLION WITH 70% OF CARS SELLING

UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 17, 2019 / UNIQUE EXAMPLE OF MODEL ENZO FERRARI NAMED AFTER HIS BELOVED SON AND WHICH HAD BEEN WITH ONE FAMILY FOR 41 OF ITS 45 YEARS SOLD FOR £310,500 BY H&H CLASSICS

H&H AUCTION GROSSED OVER £2.3 MILLION WITH 70% OF CARS SELLING

This stunning, 10,000-mile 1974 Ferrari ‘Dino’ 246GT has never been restored and is thus a true reference car say H&H Classics who sold it yesterday, October 16th for £310,500 against a presale estimate of £225,000 to £275,000 at their Imperial War Museum Duxford sale at which 70% of the cars on offer found buyers.

Alfredo Ferrari, nicknamed Alfredino or Dino (1932–1956), was an Italian automotive engineer and the first son of automaker Enzo Ferrari. He had Duchenne muscular dystrophy and died at the age of 24. His father named the iconic 206/246 model after him.

Damian Jones of H&H Classics, says: “This Dino was the last Ferrari to be dispersed from a significant private collection. A true favourite of the family it even outlasted one of just four RHD alloy-bodied 250GT SWBs made in their affections. It is a simply exceptional Dino and has been in the vendor's family for forty-one of its forty-five years and has only covered 10,000 miles from new.”

The 206/246 Dino cars are not the rarest or the fastest Ferraris ever made. However, many feel that they are the most beautiful and among the best to drive trading sheer grunt for handling finesse and driver involvement. The UK only ever received 488 RHD 246GT cars in period the overwhelming majority of which have since been restored.

1960 MINI COOPER S EVOCATION WHICH LED THE 1990 MONTE CARLO CHALLENGE RALLY ALL THE WAY TILL A NAVIGATION ERROR BROUGHT IT IN AT NINTH – SOLD FOR £11,500

This Mini started life in 1960 as a standard production Mini-Minor, but went on to rally glory, just missing a history-making win in the 1990 Monte Carlo Challenge. It sold for £11,500.

Modified to Rally specification this Mini was entered in the first Monte Carlo Challenge and started from Glasgow carrying the number 60, driven by Messrs Shand and Mackley.

A great drive saw them leading the Rally outright until an unfortunate navigation error in a timed section on the final day saw them tumble down the order to finish ninth overall.

There are extensive hand-written diary notes of this historic drive by Shand and Mackley in which they note the darkness of midnight in the Alps with ice on the inside of the windows making visibility difficult and later a furious policeman in Monte Carlo with his hand on his gun watching them lost and struggling and trying to exit a tiny square in the Principality.

Affectionately known as 'Moo', this powder blue example had been owned by its nurseryman and keen saxophonist vendor from new. Having much enjoyed owning a TR3, he was considering an Austin-Healey 3000 as a replacement when he saw the new TR4 displayed at the London Motor Show in 1961.

Discovering he was unable to fit his baritone saxophone in the boot of a Healey he purchased the Triumph from his local garage in April 1962 on favourable terms whilst going out with the owner's daughter.

‘Never raced nor rallied’ 1991 AUDI QUATTRO 20v offered for sale by its original owner with just 32,000 miles on the clock sells for £86,250

The original ‘ur’ Quattro is rightly feted for changing the face of rallying. However, this road going version could hardly have led a more pampered life. Learning from his local Audi dealership that original specification tyres were in danger of being phased out, the vendor bought no fewer than five sets as spares to ensure that his beloved Quattro would never have to settle for the ‘wrong rubber’.

As well as tyres the car was accompanied by a comprehensive spares package and indeed only came to market because its devoted keeper is no longer able to drive. Among the best and most original examples available, it sold for £86,250.
