SCOTLANG / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 22, 2019 / Scotland's biggest and most diverse trade union, Unite Scotland, will hold its forthcoming policy conference on the weekend of 26-27th October at Ayr Racecourse.
Delegates will converge to debate and vote upon the political and industrial priorities for the trade union. Motions to be discussed range from the economy to equalities, manufacturing to mental health, and public services to reversing austerity. The policy conference will be addressed by a number of key speakers including the union’s Scottish Secretary, Pat Rafferty, and General Secretary, Len McCluskey, and also the UK Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn and the Scottish Labour Leader, Richard Leonard.
Speaking ahead of the event, Unite Scottish Secretary, Pat Rafferty, said: “Hundreds of delegates will attend our Policy Conference in Ayr this weekend. It’s clear that Scotland is at a critical juncture in our history with a general election potentially imminent. Job insecurity has significantly increased which has been aided and abetted by a dangerous Boris Johnson who is intent on sacrificing Scottish jobs, communities and trade in the pursuit of Brexit at any cost. As the country’s largest trade union, we will be setting the priorities of our membership helping to ensure that the concerns of working people are at the forefront of politics and industry in Scotland.”
Please email andrew.brady@unitetheunion.org to register for a media visitor pass for the guest speakers. Places will be limited so the media are advised to pre-register by Friday 25th at 4 p.m.
