USA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / March 27, 2020 / Westrock Packaging going beyond Government Covid-19 safety measures

Unite the union has responded to an article published yesterday (26 March) on the Daily Record's website featuring Westrock Packaging based in East Kilbride.

Unite has been in contact with our senior union representatives in the Westrock Packaging facility to seek reassurances that Unite's members are working safely and that management have put in place all reasonable safety measures. Unite wishes to state that we have a productive relationship with Westrock management across all their sites and we had no reports from our union representatives or members that they were facing pressures in the plant.

Senior Unite shop-steward, Jim Fisher, has confirmed: “Unite and Westrock management are working together at the site and observing all the COVID-19 government safety guidance. In fact, we are implementing additional safety initiatives including allowing employees to isolate away from work should they feel the need to. Those working on the shop floor understand that the products the site produces play a vital part within a major industry in Scotland and they are fully committed to continuing to support all efforts to keep Scottish industry working”.

Unite Regional Industrial Officer, Norman King, said: “Unite will continue to work with Westrock to safeguard long term jobs, the business and to deliver for the customers whilst observing all safe systems of work to protect our members health and well-being. Unite recognises the challenges all sectors are facing as a consequence of COVID-19 and thanks all of its members for the sterling work they are undertaking at this time.”
