Leyland headquartered swimming pool provider World Leisure (UK) Ltd has been appointed by Wates Construction to build the water leisure facilities at a new £34 million leisure centre in Maidenhead.
Due to open spring 2020 and replacing Maidenhead’s Magnet Leisure Centre, the new Braywick Leisure Centre will include increased facilities and plans to use 70 per cent less energy than its predecessor.
World Leisure has been commissioned to build a 10-lane swimming pool – up from eight lanes at the Magnet – as well as larger training and splash pools.
Further features will include a 200-station gym, a large sports hall, improved accessibility for disabled users and sports teams, and twice as much car parking as the Magnet Leisure Centre.
World Leisure managing director Simon Smith said: “We are extremely pleased to have been appointed by Wates on this major contract, which in its entirety will be the biggest single project we have delivered to date.”
Alec Jackman, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction Southern Home Counties, commented: “This is an extremely important project for the people of Maidenhead and World Leisure brings a wealth of experience and expertise within the wet leisure industry. We’re pleased to welcome the team to our supply chain as construction continues apace on the creation of this new leisure centre for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.”
Works at the Braywick Leisure Centre are being carried out by Wates on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead via Major Works - UK, part of Scape’s National Construction framework. The framework has been designed to deliver significant levels of local economic engagement as well as extensive community initiatives.
