tepeo Welcomes Minister's Visit to See Heat Batteries in London Home

11TH MARCH 2025 / AGILITYPR.NEWS / March 11, 2025 / London, UK, 11th March 2025 – Miatta Fahnbulleh MP, the Minister for Energy Consumers, visited a home in North-West London today to see first-hand how highly flexible heat batteries support homes in shifting off fossil fuels. The Minister met with the CEOs of Sunamp and tepeo, innovative British manufacturers of heat batteries, to discuss how the UK government’s forthcoming Warm Homes Plan can support people to improve home comfort, cut energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.

The home benefits from a tepeo ZEB for space heating, combined with a Sunamp thermino for hot water. The heat batteries were discreetly installed inside a typical Victorian terrace property, taking up no external space and using the same heating system, thermostat and radiators as the old gas boiler. While it was a chilly Spring morning in London on 11 March 2025, with an external temperature of little more than 8C, the heat batteries kept the home to a cosy 21C. The heating system has been keeping the home warm for almost two years so far.

Johan du Plessis, CEO and founder, tepeo:

"It was a pleasure to welcome Miatta Fahnbulleh MP to see first-hand how the ZEB is helping households transition to low-carbon heating. Heat batteries offer a practical, flexible, and cost-effective solution, particularly for homes where heat pumps may not be viable. We welcome the Minister’s engagement and look forward to working with the Government to ensure that all homes have access to clean, affordable heating by extending the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and VAT relief to heat batteries, as part of the Warm Homes Plan."

Tom Lowe, Founding Director, Thermal Storage UK:

“As the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero finalises its Warm Homes Plan, it was fantastic to show the Energy Minister how heat batteries can help electrify and decarbonise homes today. The Climate Change Committee foresees all homes electrifying their heating in the next 25 years, so every home needs an electric heating solution that works for them, whether highly flexible heat batteries or super-efficient heat pumps”.

Andrew Bissell, CEO and founder, Sunamp:

“As we strive to decarbonise homes we need to be able to deliver affordable heating for everyone during the energy transition. It’s easier with larger homes which can accommodate a heat pump and a big hot water cylinder, but as homes get smaller and more space-constrained, the role for heat batteries gets bigger. Heat batteries like Sunamp’s Thermino range for hot water, provide a compact alternative to bulky hot water cylinders when installing heat pumps. And for homes such as terraces and apartments, electric heat batteries provide a space-saving, flexible alternative to heat pumps to directly deliver for space heating. In all cases heat batteries remove the need to burn gas in combis and other boilers. Heat batteries move home heating and hot water to clean, flexible electricity with high affordability.”

Tom Hayes MP, Labour’s National Energy Mission Champion:

“Heat batteries are a promising option for consumers looking to reduce their energy bills as they allow people to make use of off-peak tariffs, do not require outside space, and can be cheaper to install than heat pumps. It is extremely welcome that the Government is looking at how heat batteries can help deliver its Warm Homes Plan. We want to ensure that all families have the security of a home they can afford to heat and more can benefit from homegrown, clean energy free from the control of dictators.”

About Us

Notes to Editors

About tepeo: tepeo was founded in 2018 to give customers a cleaner, smarter, and more cost-effective heating solution to help them transition away from fossil fuels. Over three years of research & development culminated in the ZEB, an efficient heat battery solution that uses off-peak electricity to supply heating.

The ZEB was launched in 2021 and is based out of the offices and manufacturing facility in Wokingham. After growing the network of tepeoPRO installers over the last two years, they are hoping to bring this British made product to more environmentally-conscious customers across the UK, increasing the options available for low-carbon heating.

tepeo is here to help millions of homeowners transition away from their existing boilers towards a cleaner alternative so they can heat their home, not the planet. For more information, visit www.tepeo.com
