SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 096.25 to announce the release of Amendment A1:2025 to the EN 71-2 standard on toy flammability. EN 71-2 specifies flammability requirements for toys and is part of the wider EN 71 series that ensures toy safety across Europe. The new amendment was published in June 2025 following revisions related to the 'Standardization Request,' an agreement between the European Commission and CEN/CENELEC on the standards work program. The amendment introduces clarifications and aligns certain aspects of the standard with EN 71-5 (chemical toys other than experimental sets) and EN 71-13 (olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games). Key updates include: Alignment on testing of highly flammable and flammable liquids Clarification on test procedures for masks with openings Expansion of water hardness levels for washing toy costumes before testing Visual guidance on handling combined specimens when sample quantity is insufficient There are no major changes to the previous EN 71-2:2020 version. Once harmonized and published in the Official Journal of the EU, the amended standard can be used to demonstrate compliance with the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. The harmonization date and transitional period are yet to be announced. SGS publishes SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed of important regulatory updates. Bitcoin Alcanza un Nuevo Máximo Histórico, Impulsado por Interés Institucional y Avances Regulatorios
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 10:38 EDT
The Market Map presented by Utila in collaboration with Bitso Business, Minteo, BlindPay and Chuk Okpalugo presents more than 100 companies leading stablecoin adoption in Latin America
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 10:30 EDT
The Market Map presented by Utila in collaboration with Bitso Business, Minteo, BlindPay and Chuk Okpalugo presents more than 100 companies leading stablecoin adoption in Latin America Stablecoins are not just a trend - they are a foundational layer for the next evolution of financial infrastructure in Latin America. The most recent edition of the Crypto Landscape in Latin America report presented by Bitso reveals that the stablecoins dominated purchases in 2024, accounting for 39% of all digital assets acquired in the region. The rapid growth of stablecoin adoption in Latin America stems from a unique blend of economic challenges and a swiftly evolving digital landscape. The region has indeed proven to be fertile ground for the expansion of stablecoin payments due to several key factors: persistent high inflation and currency volatility; its status as a major corridor for remittances, with millions sending money across borders; a large population still unbanked or underserved by traditional financial institutions; and a young, digitally native populace that readily embraces new technologies, especially mobile-first solutions. The potential is even brighter for businesses. Latin American companies are increasingly adopting stablecoins for more efficient cross-border transactions and treasury management. Meanwhile, global institutions keen on expanding into the region are finding stablecoins a trusted, regulated, and efficient way to enter the market. But as the local ecosystem expands at an unprecedented pace, understanding who is building what, and where, has become increasingly difficult - and increasingly necessary. That's why Bitso Business joined forces with Utila, Minteo, BlindPay, and Chuk Okpalugo to create the first comprehensive map of the stablecoin ecosystem in Latin America. This collaborative effort was designed to bring more visibility to the builders, enablers, and use cases that are shaping the future of payments, remittances, treasury management, trading, and financial access across the region. "LATAM represents the most compelling frontier for stablecoin adoption globally, and we're proud to lead this market mapping initiative alongside our partners. The ecosystem is growing fast but remains fragmented, making it hard to get a clear picture of who's actually building what. This map is our way of contributing clarity and visibility. At Utila, we've made Latin America a strategic priority because the region isn't just adopting stablecoins, it's helping define how the world will use them. And we're all in on powering that shift," says Bentzi Rabi, Co-Founder & CEO, Utila. "The result is not just a visual - it's a tool. A tool for startups to find partners. For investors to identify opportunities. For regulators to better understand the market. And for the ecosystem to grow in a more transparent, informed, and interconnected way", says Ben Reid, Head of Stablecoins for Bitso Business. "This map is a vital testament to the dynamic, holistic transformation stablecoins are igniting across Latin America. We're seeing an explosion of new use cases daily, from basic payments to complex financial services. Unlocking these opportunities for the region requires deep, continuous ecosystem collaboration", says William Durán, Co-Founder at Minteo. "This landscape is essential for everyone to see the potential of stablecoins in the market. BlindPay has enabled global payments with stablecoins in several countries and has already demonstrated the transformative potential of these assets to solve real problems in Latin America-from inflation to international friction, says Bernardo Simonassi, CEO and founder of BlindPay. "From infrastructure providers and fintechs to exchanges and wallets, the LATAM market map helps to shine light on the key players that are making stablecoin adoption real on the ground. It's a useful tool for the market to understand who is shaping the stablecoin ecosystem in Latin America, says Chuk Okpalugo".

Succès Mondial en Santé Publique : Le Sénégal Elimine le Trachome, Une Maladie Cécitante
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 08:47 EDT
How a Little Britain video clip led to a multi-million pound property deal
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 05:24 EDT
Mo'Living, a leading UK-based property management company, is showing that memes, nostalgia, fun, and a touch of mystery can pay off in big ways after an unconventional marketing campaign built them a loyal audience of over 40,000 followers... and landed them a multi-million pound property deal. The North London organisation, which handles everything from short-term lets to long-term rentals, decided to throw out the traditional marketing playbook and do things differently. They flooded their socials with classic comedy sketches, 1980s football moments, pop videos, and quirky reels; a far cry from the usual property-related content posted by competitors. Out in the real world, they upped the intrigue by sticking mysterious labels in unexpected places - stairwells, street corners - directing people to the clips; a playful stunt that sparked thousands of clicks and a growing crowd of curious viewers. Among those followers was the son of a prominent landlord with a significant property portfolio, who hadn't been happy with his current management company for some time. After spotting one of Mo'Living's Little Britain clips - from the early 2000s comedy sketch show by Matt Lucas and David Walliams - he got in touch. The conversation quickly turned into a partnership, with Mo'Living now managing the family's growing multi-million pound portfolio. "People don't want to do business with faceless companies; they want to connect with other humans. That's what we've always believed, and this campaign proves it" says Jonathan Moser, CEO of Mo'Living. "By showing off our team's personality and having a bit of fun, we reminded potential clients that there are real people here who truly care. In the end, it wasn't a sales pitch or a brochure that brought this client to us - it was a laugh, a moment of connection, and a reminder that we shouldn't be afraid to be ourselves". The unusual story says a lot about the way marketing works in 2025. Audiences are bombarded with polished ads every day, and most of them fade into the noise. But brands willing to take risks, tell stories, and make people smile are the ones that get noticed. Memes and mystery - and even retro television - might seem unlikely tools, but Mo'Living's success shows that out-of-the-box thinking can build stronger connections than expensive ad campaigns. Of course, thinking differently has always been at the heart of Mo'Living's approach. They've built their reputation on a refreshingly personal service, not often seen in the world of property management. Clients get direct phone numbers connecting them instantly with the team, rather than having to log issues apps and wait around for responses. The team handles everything hands-on - from fixing boilers with their own vans to sorting problems with a quick WhatsApp or call. As Moser says, "Here, we do things differently. Every client has our personal number, so there's no clunky apps and no waiting around. Want something done? It gets done. Simple". For more information, visit www.moliving.co.uk
Logistics Labour Crunch 2025: Is Better Equipment the Key to Retention?
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 04:49 EDT
With the logistics sector bracing for continued labour shortages in 2025, businesses are rethinking how they attract and retain warehouse staff. Pallet Trucks UK, one of the country's leading suppliers of manual handling equipment, argues that better tools - not just better pay - may be the overlooked factor in creating safer, more appealing workplaces. As the industry battles with high turnover and an ageing workforce, the physical demands placed on employees are drawing increased scrutiny. The latest government data shows nearly 40% of UK logistics businesses are struggling to fill vacancies. While automation garners attention, many warehouses still rely heavily on manual processes - and it's here that equipment upgrades can have the most immediate impact. "Better conditions start with better equipment," says Phil Chesworth, Managing Director at Pallet Trucks UK. "If you're asking someone to lift, push, and transport heavy loads all day, you have a duty to ensure they're using tools that minimise strain and reduce injury risk. It's a matter respect, efficiency, and staff wellbeing." The company has seen growing demand for ergonomically designed pallet trucks and scissor lift tables that reduce physical stress on workers. These pallets not only help to avoid workplace injuries - a leading cause of absence in logistics - but can also serve as a valuable retention tool. According to the British Safety Council, musculoskeletal injuries remain one of the most common reasons for long-term sickness among warehouse staff. Providing safer, easier-to-use handling solutions shows a tangible investment in the workforce - which can make all the difference in an industry where margins are tight, and staff loyalty is often hard-won. "As competition for labour intensifies, we're finding that companies who invest in the wellbeing of their warehouse teams see better morale, fewer injuries, and greater staff retention," adds Chesworth. "It's becoming a competitive necessity, particularly for businesses that cannot afford to compete with industry giants when it comes to pay." For businesses looking to future-proof their workforce, investing in the right manual handling equipment could just be the smartest move they make in 2025. SGS Examines the Impact of EU Sustainability Rules on Consumer Products
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 04:43 EDT
SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a Consumer Compact article on how new EU sustainability regulations are set to transform consumer product markets. The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and accompanying Digital Product Passport (DPP) are key elements of the EU Green Deal, supporting a shift to a more circular and climate-neutral economy. These measures will impact how products are designed, manufactured, marketed and disposed of - from fashion and furniture to electronics and toys. ESPR introduces minimum requirements for durability, repairability and recyclability, while also banning the destruction of unsold goods in many categories. At the same time, the DPP will digitally track each product's sustainability profile across its life cycle, improving transparency for consumers and accountability for brands. The article outlines priority product groups targeted by the EU's latest working plan, including textiles, furniture, mattresses and intermediate materials such as aluminum and steel. The implications for businesses are far-reaching, demanding action on material sourcing, supply chain traceability and digital data management. With full rollout expected by 2027/28, forward-thinking brands can gain a competitive edge by aligning early with these regulatory shifts. The article also discusses the role of DPPs in related sectors, such as toy safety under the proposed Toy Safety Regulation. SGS Examines the Safe Use of Recycled Plastics in Food Contact Materials
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 04:37 EDT
SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a Consumer Compact article examining the use of recycled plastics in food contact applications. As governments and industries seek ways to reduce plastic pollution and promote circular economy principles, the use of recycled plastics is gaining momentum. However, when applied to food contact materials, recycled content must meet strict safety and traceability requirements to prevent harmful contaminants from entering the food supply. The article outlines the contamination risks associated with recycled plastics, such as the presence of non-food-grade materials, residual chemicals and microbiological hazards. It also presents key regulatory frameworks, including Regulation (EU) 2022/1616, the EU Single-Use Plastic Directive and national laws like France's AGEC and the UK's plastic packaging tax. In the US, the article highlights the voluntary No Objection Letter (NOL) program operated by the FDA, which assesses whether recycled plastic can be safely used in food contact materials. The process includes detailed documentation, a challenge test and contaminant analysis. With plastic use projected to grow significantly by 2040, the question is no longer whether recycled plastics will be used in food contact materials, but how to ensure their safe and compliant integration into the supply chain. SGS Supports Compliance for Custom-Built Electrical Equipment in the US
Tue, Jul 15, 2025 04:22 EDT
SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a Consumer Compact article addressing the challenges US businesses face in achieving compliance for custom-built, modified or imported electrical equipment. Under OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.399, all electrical equipment used in the workplace must be 'acceptable,' meaning certified, listed or labeled by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). This mandate ensures safety and code compliance but can pose challenges for equipment that falls outside traditional production models. This article outlines the primary certification pathways recognized by OSHA: product certification for high-volume items, listing for compliant products under audit programs and field evaluations for custom or one-off equipment. It explains how limited production certification (LPC), labeling through accredited Field Evaluation Bodies (FEBs) and key standards like NFPA 79 and 790 provide flexible but robust routes to compliance. The piece also highlights the growing role of cybersecurity in electrical equipment approval. With updates to NFPA 79 introducing mandatory cybersecurity controls for network-connected machinery, businesses must adopt proactive strategies to avoid costly disruptions and meet modern safety expectations. Read the original Consumer Compact article, ' Safety Meets Customization: Navigating Field Equipment Approval in the US .'
